Nick Keeper Pro

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Nick Keeper Pro 2.2

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon that allows you to keep track of a number of nicknames through dialog windows with a minimum amount of handling. Faulty in certain respects (please read review for more details). The script contains a readme.txt file that includes the setup instructions for the addon and also a description of what it is supposed to do. The addon has popup support in the channel, status and nicklist sections. The script allows you to set a single password for all your nicks only, which might be unpractical if you were intend on keeping a nick for someone else and did not exactly wish to change the password. The author also boasts of encryption, eventhough I disagree. The password is only encrypted through a simple $replace() routine. Since passwords with nickserv/chanserv are usually case sensitive, this seems like a bad idea and might cause a lot of problems. Requiring everyone to use a lowercase password does not seem very accomodating. The dialog windows are easy to use and the addon also allows you to

NickCol

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: NickCol 2

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon that allows you to set custom colours for ops and voices in the nickname list section of channel windows. Also has a section that will intercept /whois replies and redirect the results into a custom window. The addon operates through popup menus in the channel section and popup dialog boxes. It's fairly easy to use and understand. The readme file has setup instructions, a description of its features and also a few troubleshooting tips from the author. While it's easy to understand, I personally feel that there could have been a bit more "embroidery" to the GUI. The script itself does not do very much, so to embellish it a bit more (or to have an optionally enhanced interface) would have been a good idea. It appears to work fine. You have four options: setting a custom colour for a person (max of 15 - one for each colour), setting your custom colours for ops & voices, activating the script or resetting the colours to their default. There are a few bugs. For example, even if the addon has

NickFinder

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: NickFinder 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Socket script that allows you to specify a number of servers (you may chose from a list) and then check these networks for a given nick to see if they are there or not. If they are, you will also be shown the channels that they are on, including their current address/host. The documentation consists of a readme file which is fairly concise. You shouldn't have any problems using the script. It's easy to use with custom windows, popups and dialog windows. From what I could tell, the addon works just fine. :) The coding is quite dense and clammed up together, so it's not easy to read. However, it in itself looks good and efficient, so I don't really have much to say about that. :)

NightShade Seen Addon

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: NightShade Seen Addon 0.5

Format: Win OS

Description: Very basic seen script that monitors parts and quits. The script is easy to setup and has installation instructions that allow you to load the addon without any problems. The author also included a readme file and contact information in case of problems. The addon works well enough for what it does, but it's incomplete in certain respects. For example, it only monitors the Quits and the Parts. The author did not take into account any nickname changes, being kicked from a channel etc. Also, it does include any quit or part message as part of the reply. The script only works in channels of your choice and you set the channels through the popups menu. However, you have to retype all the channels everytime that you wish to add or remove one, something that could become tedious. The coding could be improved by replacing "On 1:EVENT:" with "On *:EVENT:", "halt" with "return" and by removing some of the extra slashes that are very much unnecessary :) The use of dynamic popups might also be a bonus.

Number Conversion

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Number Conversion

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon script with dialog interface that allows you to calculate heximal into decimal numbers and vice versa. Looks like the calculator that comes with windows (simple version). The author wrote a short readme file with a description of the script and setup instructions. Once the addon file is loaded into remotes you can access the dialog window through the status window popups or type /numconv. I have to freely admit that I don't know exactly as to how to calculate heximals into decimals and vice versa. However, when I use the addon, the script always gives the same string when you calculate it back and forth. But then, the addon uses $base with only 16 and 10 inversed, so I suppose that's normal. =) The addon is clean and easy to use. Nice code with local aliases, well chosen variable names, and return. The only thing that I would have liked to see in this addon is some type of support for copy & pasting. I imagine that would make it a lot easier on the user if they actually intend to put thi
